Encountering social difficulties and challenges in schools is common for every children, ranging from making friends, joining a group of people, navigating disagreements, understanding other people's feelings, to developing the strong sense of self while maintaining a respectful relationship and healthy boundaries. Working everything at the same time at once could be very overwhelming that leave our children a sense of unspeakable loneliness and exhaustion.

Quite often parents and caregivers make effort to understand them, while they may neither have the word to express themselves, nor refuse to talk more about it. We are often left with feelings of inadequate as a caregivers carrying lots of stress. It becomes a cycles quietly impacting the parent-child relationshp.

How Child Counselling Can Support Social and Relationship Difficulties:

We often wonder why child counselling would work if our child already decides to not talk about their difficulties. This could be right - while we may find it hard to know the exact answer: does the child decide to refuse talking? or has the child already communicate something to us, but we miss that?

Child counselling provides children with a safe therapeutic relationship where they can explore their experiences of trusting people, and using their natural language to express themselves without being "forced" to verbally talk about it. Depending on the child's age and developmental needs, counselling may involve conversation, creative activities, experiential work, or play.

In Counselling, we tend to imrpove:

Friendships

  • Children can explore what friendship means to them, experiences of belonging or rejection, and the challenges they encounter when connecting with peers.

Boundaries

  • Children can develop greater awareness of personal boundaries, learn to communicate their own limits, and explore how to respect the boundaries of others.

Conflict Resolutions

  • Disagreements are a normal part of relationships. Counselling can provide opportunities to explore what happens when conflict occurs and how children respond to frustration, disappointment, or anger.

Communication

  • Children can explore different ways of expressing feelings, needs, preferences, and boundaries.

Emotional Regulation

  • Strong emotions can make social situations much more difficult. Helping children understand and manage their emotions can support their ability to navigate relationships.

Confidence

  • Children who have experienced repeated rejection or conflict may begin to believe something is wrong with them. Counselling can provide opportunities to develop a stronger and more accepting sense of themselves.
